Reception

Children have a home learning book. Each week they will be given a maths and a literacy home learning task linked to the teaching that has taken place in school. Books must be brought in to school every Monday and will be sent home with the new tasks on a Tuesday.

It is also expected that children will read daily. Each week they will bring home a story book to be shared with family and a phonics book linked to the sounds and key words being taught in class that they will begin to read themselves. Story books will be changed every Monday and Friday. Phonics books will be changed several times throughout the week. Please make a comment each time you read to let us know you have finished the book and how children got on. Books and reading records need to be brought into school daily.

Phonics

What is phonics?

Where should my child be in phonics?

How can I help my child with phonics?

The most important thing you can do is read the phonetically decodable books (books which can be read by a child using their phonic knowledge) which are sent home with your child. To check you are pronouncing the sounds correctly, please watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkXcabDUg7Q
